Like or love? Definitely worth the investment and a second date. Concise and what appears well rounded for a book that covers the whole city which is broken into 'emes'. Practical Info and intelligible directions. For those who may not have traveled a lot or in a while: conversion rates(approx) ATMs banks, vs exchanges. Uber vs cabs; City passes, Metro and museums. Info for all the other transportation alternatives. Cell phones, Sim cards, tabacs. Wi-fi. Shopping.They cover a broad range of 'what if' and 'what about'. Theft, safety, health concerns. Once you have your life meshed with your vacation it's time to move on to all there is to do in Paris (something that could take a lifetime). It's a start at hotels, and dining. Thorough in sights, museums, etc. Day tours, self-guide, or combinations. All broken down to interests, age groups, costs. Little pointers of (no so) inside information. everything comes with a web address, hours, phone number, location and other pertinent info which allows you to further investigate those things that do interest you. All the things a travel book should have. Including a small translation dictionary ant how to yell HELP It's easy to read, and a book to take, not just read before you go. My personal foibles, I nearly jumped for joy when I read the description of The Kiss, at the Musee Rodin.The ONLY travel book or even TV show I've seen to point out the statue was made for placement on the Gates of Hell, the meaning of its subject matter very different than what it appears. I was impressed with the detail given the length. Frommer's has been around for a long time. Worth the investment.

Even though the title says 2019, the information is dated. They totally phoned this one in. One would assume that “2019†meant that the information would be no more than 6 months old. Yet, when I went online to check websites for a few of the nightlife and restaurant recommendations from the book, I found that some of them were long closed. One venue closed over 2 years ago, but it is listed in the book as one of the half dozen top places for live music. They just cut and paste older versions of the book and slapped “2019†on it. You’re better off just going to TripAdvisor.
I knew when I read the fascinating seciont about the history of the Mona Lisa that this book was the right one for me. Its really well written, totally up to date (I have the 2019 edition), and wonderfully insightful about French culture, history and cuisine. On the latter point: you go to Paris to eat, and you won’t be disappointed by the choices in this book. Many are brand new, and all of the ones we tried were really, really great. The only problem was that many of them are so popular among the locals, you need reservations well in advance. We did two of the recommended side trips (Fontainbleu and Chartres) and both were easy to do, thanks to the detailed info in the book, and really worthwhile
Just returned from my best trip to Paris, and I had two other guidebooks with me, but ended up using this one exclusively. It was the best by far, and the most up to date (in fact, a few of the restaurants in the book had been open less than a year. ) I followed the suggested itineraries in the book, and they were great: logical, gave me enough time to see what I wanted, and suggested a few things I loved that I wouldn’t have known to do otherwise. In fact, I actually got to see more than I expected thanks to this guide. I also really enjoyed the self-guided walking tour of Montmartre in the book (did them instead of an in person tour, and definitely saved more than the cost of the book).Some tips:As the book says, you’re likely going to have to call a few times to get a reservation at Clown Bar (a restaurant) but it is soooo worth it.Don’t be nervous about using the metro. It is so much more convenient than taxis and the book makes figuring out the system easy.Say bonjour whenever you enter a shop or restaurant (as the book suggests). When I read that in the book, and started doing so, it transformed how Parisians were treating me. They expect courtesy, so don’t let your shyness about speaking french get in the way.Enjoy Paris. I hope to go back!
This is well written and current information. Chapter 6 is very useful (page 135) as to the costs of things you will probably want to see and how to get the most for your money, all written in a straightforward way.The whole book is useful to make decisions on where to eat and what to visit and how to get around. I will definitely use it again.
We'll be passing through Paris on our way to Normandie for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. We've been in the city before and Frommer's always gives you the skinny on what to see, how to avoid lines by going at certain times of day. I have a better idea how to focus my trip.
Totally made our family's trip to Paris much more interesting and insightful. No app or website can give you the same easy to find research, recommendations, and excellent detail. I'm an IT guy and I'm so glad we had this wonderful book for our trip. Some things should never go out of print- these guides are timeless.
