I learned about this book from listening to an audible audio book titled Earthing by Clinton Ober, Stephen T Sinatra and Martin Zucker. He has so much information to share that we all need to hear and learn but especially people like me who have tried every high blood pressure ever created over the last six years and can’t seem to keep it under control! Thanks to this book and possibly a couple of other natural remedies I’ve tried (Hibiscus flowers, Irish Sea Moss, burdock root) I’ve finally lowered my blood pressure within two weeks of reading this book and following Dr. Sinatra’s advice so thank you!Also love how his wife gave us lots of background information on Dr Sinatra which gave me clear picture of how important it is to take his advice and I had lots of respect for him before reading the first chapter of his book thanks to her input!Read the book and follow his steps and you’re guaranteed to lower your blood pressure!
Fighting mild hypertension I was pleased to find this book and see how well it was reviewed.Let me say straight away that it is an excellent book but sadly more than 10 years old.Why is this important?In the intervening years both Dr Sinatra and his colleague Johnny Bowden PhD have evolved their position on two fundamental points.1. The book refers to the conventional wisdom of lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol. Recent publications, and a Dr Oz appearance (on line still) have both men strongly claiming that the evidence from multiple trials over many decades show cholesterol levels are not correlated with risk of heart disease. I believe they are correct.2. The same situation has developed with saturated fats. The growing position of the Medical Community is that saturated fats are good for you and in fact better than the processed 'reduced' or 'zero' fat products coming from our food factories. To quote Bowden in a recent article 'A Harvard study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concludes that "greater saturated fat intake is associated with LESS progression of coronary atherosclerosis".Sadly the dietary advice in the book, whilst excellent as far as it goes does not recognise these major shifts in accepted knowledge.
This is an excellent book for us lay people who need help with blood pressure issues. Especially when we don't get very good advice or guidance from doctors. Dr Sinatra is a brilliant man who has researched this undwer medical guidelines. His protocol works. We need to inform our medical care providers and doctors to read Dr Sinatra's books. Drugs are not the answer most of the time.
Following Dr Sinatra's recommendations on supplements and diet I was able to achieve normal 120/70 readings in about 4 weeks, and drop my BP medication. Keep in mind that I was already eating well and excersising but his advice on natural supplements and food is right on and it works.
With the principles outlined in this book, I weaned myself off prescription meds in 6 months and now maintain a BP of about 115/70. For a little extra benefit and to knock a few more points off your readings, try scaling back meat to no more than once per week and eliminate dairy and oils. The results were much more stable when I tweaked the PAMM diet in this book a tad more. Also, don't forget to exercise as Dr. Sinatra tells us.
I have been very impressed with Dr. Sinatra's books. Since my husband has problems with blood pressure and has bad side effects with high blood pressure medications, I have been searching for ways to help him lower his blood pressure naturally. Dr. Sinatra's books have provided me with so much information in a format that I can easily understand. I also recommend THE GREAT CHOLESTEROL MYTH by Dr. Sinatra.
Eight weeks ago I was diagnosed with isolated systolic hypertension (BP 160/64). I was already doing some of the book recommendations before I read it. Then I started on the full program right away. Now my resting BP is running 115/68 to 120/75 and my weight went from 160lbs to 150lbs. While I did NOT feel poorly eight weeks ago, I now feel unbelievably GREAT. I will be 70 years young in September 2008.I think I should also report that my physician put me on ZOLOFT 100MG DAILY eight weeks ago. This reduced anxiety and depression and may have helped reduce my BP.
