I feel like this book is a User's Manual for my mind. Reading the chapter on Neuroscience & Psychoeducation resulted in a light bulb over my head! Now I get why I am how I am. Now I can do something constructive about it. The workbook format allows for me to do more than just read and file the information away in my brain. I engage with this book ... actually take the time to write out answers to the "Inquiry" questions, I do the mindfulness and yoga practices, talk to someone about what I'm learning and doing. It's changing the way I see some things and see myself. I give this book my highest recommendation to all humans. We can all use a User's Guide to ourselves. Thank you, Mary NurrieStearns, for writing with kind compassion and in terms I can grasp and apply.

The author of this book is one of my favorite trainers in the field of psychotherapy. As a budding therapist, I am deeply grateful to have come across her work! This workbook does not disappoint: it offers psychoeducation of newest brain science to back up all the practices presented, personal and clinical stories (of course not identifying clients) to keep readers engaged and connected to the material, and pictures to ensure readers are clear on yoga poses referred to therein. Throughout the book the authors voice of loving kindness shines through, which in itself is so healing.I will refer to this book again and again, both in my personal practice and in service to others. I HIGHLY recommend it to practitioners and those seeking relief from feelings of anxiety, depression and unworthiness!

As someone who has long struggled with PTSD (before it was recognized as PTSD). I have found the techniques in this book (yoga especially) to be extremely soothing and calming to me. The techniques come from sound research and are evidenced based. The author states personal experiences which for me is extremely helpful. She not only teaches but also does the practices herself. I highly recommend this workbook for anyone that suffers from trauma, anxiety and depression.

This book is very helpful in breaking down complex research into easily understandable explanations. It offers practices that will help anyone suffering from anxiety and depression. I admire how the author uses her own personal stories of hardship to explain how the brain protects itself from trauma and how that impacts us in the long run. The example stories she provides from her years working with clients are also helpful in providing insight for healing. There are prompts to help you reframe your thoughts as well as notes to a therapist if you are working with one.

Wow, I love this workbook! It combines evidence-based mindfulness practices, journaling, self-inquiry, and movement practices. I appreciate the synergy of incorporating my challenges with recommended healing practices so that my experience feels personalized and tailored for my growth. I also appreciate the author’s emphasis on psychoeducation, as I found it helpful to understand what is causing dysfunctional thoughts and behaviors at a biological level.
