I've been involved in martial arts and security for many years . Daniel really hits it on the head - the past. What we can learn from it and how to view society and our leaders , what is really going on. This is not a book to finish in one night . It should be read and contemplated . In today's world there is a lot to think about . What, why ,way , your ideals effect everyone around you. I highly recommend this book to anyone whose ideals concern themselves with opening their eyes more
This volume adds immeasurably to the canon of work exploring courage, honor, and the willingness to stand alone in defense of others. As someone who is interested in the concept of "noble cause" as applied to policing, and finds this ideal often lacking in institutions, I appreciate the way in which Modell investigates individual commitment to the cause. The author reinforces the critical values each one of must have to set the warrior self apart, and to distinguish themselves. This is an important treatise for young people, as well, and I highly recommend as a must-read for young adult still finding their inner compass.
Each ideal is summed up in one sentence at the end of each chapter. We’ve all read the historical stories of war and we all have our own issues with bureaucrats. The rest is a bunch of fancy words just to fill up the pages of a very weak book. A disappointing read.

The author manages to intelligently blend history into an inspirational guide for modern day guardians, our nation's military and law enforcement officers. This book further serves as a leadership manual as well as a bible for identifying and eradicating toxicity in bureaucratic organizations.
This is the best book I’ve read since On Combat. The literary world is full of pseudo experts and armchair quarterbacks that shamelessly self promote, but Danny presents his work humbly; his grasp of the topics and credibility are beyond reproach. Danny is part of a small fraternity of legitimate experts that have walked the walk. This should be required reading for everyone who has stepped forward to serve, but there is something in here for everyone. All my brothers in Blue will be getting a copy of this from me for Christmas.
Good info, a little flowery to show the authors big brain at times. I especially liked the parts about warrior vs bureaucrat and toxic leadership. The toxic leadership is unfortunately a huge problem and his explanations put it into words better than I have previously seen.
This is an awesome book, it is an easy read but full of so much. I enjoyed very much. Excellent
